320. The number of completion. Am I right?
Oh wait, 320 just seems to be the number of fullness because, by some miracle of miracles, I read 320 pages on Sunday.
Who am I?
This is the soul who struggles to power through a few dozen pages on a typical day. Not for lack of wanting to read but because, well, life.
So, what made Sunday a special sort of day?
If you must know, I’m ill. Little goblins have been waging war inside my innards for half a month now, and the battle has evolved into what is looking to be a longer campaign. Added to the general discouragement of being sick, is the feeling that there must be some way to beat back the feeling of wasted time.
Hence, reading for the win! When I’m lying down trying to let my body win the war, I’ve been picking up my forsaken books every spare minute possible, even if it’s just a few pages snatched here and there.
But the crazy thing is that those pages are adding up.
Sunday morning stats:
The Return of the King: 20 pages
Assassin’s Apprentice: 40 pages
Brick by Brick: 20 pages
And then finally…because I was feeling so ill I decided to throw my normal TBR to the wind and pick-up a re-read: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The rest of the day was filled with binging Harry’s first year at ye olde Hogwarts, and I must say a dose of first-year classes was exactly what the doctor ordered to get through a tough day.
It’s amazing how God gives us exactly what we need when needed most. I’d been bemoaning the fact that my reading time is zilch most days, and the Lord has blessed me with time to read during a period of my life when I’m too ill to do much more. Some might call it a curse, but I see it as God providing a blessing at exactly the right time.
With that, I plan on delving back into the Realm of the Elderings this evening with Robin Hobb’s excellent Assassin’s Apprentice!
